Model : BlackBerry 8100 (Vodafone Australia)

This procedure unlocks the handset from being network restricted from only using SIM cards from Vodafone Australia. In case of difficulties, please refer to the FAQ listed below

    1. Take note of the unlocking code shown above

    2. Insert a Non-Vodafone Australia working SIM card.

    3. Ensure the phone is charged and then switch the phone on.

    4. Optional Step: If the SIM card has a PIN, enter your PIN number. (See FAQ below)

    5. The phone will then display a message. The most common is “Invalid SIM card”. (Different message? See FAQ below)

    6. Select “Turn Wireless Off”

    7. Select “Settings” Menu , then go to Advanced Options > SIM Card

    8. Type alt-MEPT by holding the ALT-key and typing the letters MEPT with multitap i.e. type hold ALT, type {M}{ER}{OP}{OP}{TY}

    9. When prompted with “Enter Network MEP code (255 left)” on the screen, enter the 16-digit network unlock code provided for your phone, then press Enter. (Unlocking code is shown above)

    10. Reset the phone by pulling the battery

    11. Switch the phone on and the handset will be unlocked automatically. This will be confirmed if you can make and receive calls with the Non-Vodafone Australia SIM card. (You will need reception and phone credit with the different network provider)

    Please Note:

If the unlocking code is entered incorrectly the next attempt to unlock the device will be delayed for 10 seconds increments. The number of unlocking attempts is limited to 255 tries only. When 255 attempts is reached the phone will be permanently blocked.

To unblock the phone, it must be taken to a RIM service centre. No outgoing calls including emergency call is possible when the phone is blocked.

Question: My phone asks to enter a PIN number

Answer: For SIM cards with PIN ENBLED you will be required to enter a PIN. This is not the unlocking code that has just been provided. For information concerning the PIN, PIN2, PUK and PUK2 codes for a SIM card please read the manual that came with your phone. This is not a handset unlocking difficulty.

Question: My handset displays a different message then what is shown in this procedure when I insert a Non Vodafone Australia SIM card.

Answer: The most common message the phone will display is “Invalid SIM card”. Because each handset may have a different variation in software there is no common message. If your handset displays a different message it is recommended to move onto the next step. Note: Faulty SIM Cards – The handset may also display messages indicating the SIM you are using to unlock the handset is faulty, it could display “Insert SIM” “Bad Card”, “Card Error” or “Card Rejected”, confirm the SIM card is inserted correctly “” Gold area downwards and the cut of the corner matches correctly. You will need a working Non Vodafone SIM card to unlock the handset, Vodafone can not assists with other networks faulty SIMs.

Question: I am outside of Australia and experiencing difficulties unlocking the phone that I purchased from a Vodafone Australia outlet

Answer: Clearly note this in the difficulties description. Vodafone Australia can only send a reply to the difficulty by email.

  • Cellular phone batteries

Having a problem with your cellular phone.

When is it  time to change cellular phone battery is a question that arises every so often. Usually cellular phone batteries will last approximately 12-14 months (some will estimate them to last longer) before needing to be replaced.

When buying a new Li-Ion battery or when purchasing a new cellular phone (new battery should be in package) the MOST IMPORTANT function that you can do to help yourself enjoy the cellular phone is BE PATIENT!!!

(do not charge the phone unless you are willing to leave it on the charger for an overnight charge)

Cellular phone batteries need to be charged overnight (6-8 hours) for the first 3 cycles. What is a cycle? A cycle is considered a full charge and using the power of the battery fully.

Step 1 – Charge battery overnight  (6-8 hours)

Step 2 – Turn on the phone and start using – charge again only when you have used most of the power of phone. (do not charge again a few hours later – wait for battery to drain out)

    Step 3 – Repeat steps 1 & 2 for the next 2 charging cycles.

After the third charge the battery will have its full power potential and can be charged for short period of time 20 min or half hour with no worries. The battery will have no memory effect and short charge will not harm battery. IF YOUR BATTERY OR PHONE FEELS HOT WHEN CHARGING  (AT ANY TIME) =  UNPLUG IMMEDIATELY !!!

Over charging batteries does have an effect on the battery life. Batteries usually need to be charged for no more then 60 to 90 minutes. The practice of overnight charging the battery is widely used by many users (not recommended), the battery overall life will be effected. Usually when overnight charging batteries on a regular basis will contribute to battery life span of about eight months to one year.

You may need a new battery if:

If your battery is dying and need recharging during the day.

Cellular phone is not charging or fails to turn on

If your battery looks imploded or leaking – DO NOT ATTEMPT TO USE OR CHARGE – battery acid is dangerous and if you try to charge it could explode.

Batteries are usually easy to exchange.

  • Chargers

Every cellular phone needs to charged. Cellular phones use rechargeable batteries that need to be charged. How frequently to charge a cellular phone depends on the cellular phone model and the amount of use per day (user dependable). If you use your mobile phone constantly during the day you will need to charge your phone more often then someone that uses the phone less frequently.

NOTE: New cellular phone batteries need to be overnight charged for the first three times. An overnight charge is considered to be between six to eight hours (6-8 hrs). After the third charge is when the Li-Ion battery will be at its full capacity. After the third charge charging the mobile phone for 45 min to 1 hour is usually sufficient to get a full charge.

A car charger is used to charge a cellular phone (or any other electronic device) using the cigarette lighter plug in the car. Car chargers are  very useful when traveling. Having a good working car charger will keep your phone working at all times while traveling.

Getting the correct car charger is important since a wrong car charger will not fit or work unless its compatible with the cellular phone you are using.  There are many different designs for car plugs but due to a new agreement between the major cellular phone companies the Micro USB charger is the standard size for most new cellular phones.

We are displaying bellow a compatibility list for different model phones. If you do not find your phone model please ask and we will try to get back to you with which model charger your phone will work with your specific phone.

When shopping for a replacement or new charger car or house. If you see the model number for your phone in one of the lists other models in that list should be compatible with your phone. (sorry we do not guarantee the compatibility)

When purchasing a new charger try to get the Original Manufacturer Charger (or OEM) for your model phone. (You do not need or have  to purchase directly from manufacturer or cellular phone provider)  Original chargers and car chargers are usually much dependable the cord is longer and better quality (will last much longer).

  • Cellular phone accessories

charger if the original charger breaks
    car charger for traveling
Leather case or holster to keep phone on waist
Earpiece or hands free for driving
Bluetooth for driving or just be able to use the phone on the go.
or maybe even a battery (they don’t last forever)

Cellular phone accessories are not all one size fits all.

We will try to help with finding the right accessories for your phone.
